BIC lighters are characterized by their oval shape, their particularly robust quality and their unique safety bar that prevents children from playing around with them. The disposable lighter from the traditional French company also sets accents in terms of durability. On average, there are 3,000 ignitions. Even if you use it regularly, you can get by with it for a few weeks without any problems.

How it works depends on which model you choose. There are three different versions here: the friction wheel lighter, the electronic lighter and the multifunctional lighter.

The friction wheel

This category includes BIC's classic maxi lighter, the BIC Slim and the BIC Mini. As the name suggests, the Slim is narrower than the original and the Mini is shorter. However, the functionality is the same for every model. Inside the plastic housing there is a container for the butane gas and a nozzle. As soon as you press the red button on the lighter, the reduction valve at the top of the container will open. This causes the gas to escape at high pressure and swirl with air. This is how the flammable gas-air mixture is created.

Of course, this must now also be ignited. This is done via the friction wheel and the flint. By means of a spring, the flint is pressed against the friction wheel. If you now pull the wheel down, it will tear small pieces out of the flint. This creates sparks that ignite the gas-air mixture.
