An ebb and flow system is a closed system where the water, which often contains fertilizer, is pumped onto the individual tables, causing the crops to start absorbing water and the added fertilizers.

After a certain time, the tables are emptied and the remaining water runs back into a central container.

Here you can now add clean water and fertiliser as needed to give the mixture the desired composition again before the next watering is carried out.
